Positivity is all about being optimistic in life. Positivity can lead to better mental health and well-being and can buffer us from the effects of stress
Research has shown that we can improve our positivity - here are some things to try:
Spend time with positive people who inspire and support you & avoiding negative thoughts and people that drag you down
Do the things that make you happy and bring you joy, and not just the things you think you ought to do.
Be grateful for what you have and express your appreciation. Make a list of things you're grateful for. Write in a gratitude journal and jot down a few things that made you feel happy or grateful. By focusing on the good things in your life, you’ll naturally start to shift into a more positive frame of mind.
Use Positive Self-Talk – be careful how you talk to yourself and try to actively say and think positive things. A Self-compassion letter can be a good way to do this - say nice things to yourself and give yourself a break for anything that you might have been judging yourself for.
Find the silver living – also called ‘positive reappraisal’ this involves trying to reframe the situation to find its benefits and decrease our negative emotions.
Smile - even if you're not feeling it, forcing yourself to smile can actually make you feel better.
Practice Mindfulness - when you're feeling stressed or overwhelmed, take a few deep breaths and focus on the present moment. Notice how your body feels and what sounds you can hear. Once you learn to identify your thoughts, you can then work to actively replace negative thoughts with more positive ones.
